Changing healthcare as you know it

64944445_S (2)In the interest of further providing WellVia companies and members with the convenience, access and affordability they expect from the premier telehealth provider, it has joined forces with the Salt Lake City-based LowestMed, the nation’s first prescription price transparency search engine.

This is particularly notable coming at a time when, according to the National Business Group on Health, 90 percent of the country’s major employers plan to make telehealth services such as WellVia a part of their employees’ benefit package in 2017.

“Our doctors can diagnose non-emergent care and if medically appropriate, prescribe medication to the pharmacy of the member’s choice,” WellVia President Todd Thoman said.

“By partnering with LowestMed, WellVia members can see the prices of their medications at various pharmacies. With our proprietary platform, WellVia will notify members, in real-time, where to receive immediate discounts on medications,” he said in a press release released by LowestMed.

Added LowestMed CEO Brad Bangerter, “Patients participate in telehealth for convenient access to high quality and affordable medical care. By partnering with WellVia, LowestMed helps patients conveniently compare drug prices, in real-time, while communicating with their doctor.

“This allows them to know the costs before visiting the pharmacy and enables them to get the best price possible.”

CBS Investigative Reporter Brian Maass, in a 2016 undercover story, found in visiting three Denver pharmacies that LowestMed charged less than his insurance in two of the three prescriptions, one saving him $600 a year. His insurance saved him about $2 on the third.

Before doing the story, Maass said in the broadcast, he assumed his insurance always offered the lowest price. Through LowestMed’s mobile and online sites, he could scan local pharmacies and see ahead of time which offered the most affordable medications.

WellVia is also breaking down walls as it changes the face of healthcare with its telehealth services. Members can consult with board-certified, U.S.-based physicians 24/7/365 for their non-emergency medical needs, wellness coaching and EAP specialists from the convenience of their own homes or wherever they might be. By mobile device or online, the average wait time to hear from the doctor is less than 10 minutes and 92 percent of the issues are fully resolved.

Studies show that 70 percent of primary care visits and 40 percent of emergency room visits are efficiently handled by telehealth providers. And WellVia’s 95 percent approval rating by its members supports the findings.

Together, WellVia and LowestMed will affect millions of consumers in receiving convenient, accessible and affordable healthcare.
